WNO Workshop
Last Sunday some people from Bitesize all went to the Odeon in Wrexham for a workshop with Welsh National Opera. They sang lots of different songs from different operas around the world. It was very interesting. I have put a programme, a flyer and my ticket into my BTEC folder.

Dance
We carried on working at our routine and added in a corner sequence and a floor sequence. Then we put it all together to speed and most people managed to pick it up quite well, including me, but I will practise at home to make sure that i dont forget it.
Drama
In drama we worked with Lee again and this time we used three techniques to help our emotions appear more realistic. We used memories, which involved remembering a situation that was similar to the one we were acting out, the magic if, where we imagined what it would be like if we were in that situation, and remembering emotions and applying them to the scene that we were acting out, which os fairly self explanatory.
Casting
In casting we worked on the Singin in the Rain routine again and added onto what we already had. Halfway through Linda took the BTEC people so that she could have a word about the next module we wi;; be looking at, which is Solo Musical Performance.

Acting Exam
At the same time as my singing exam I also took my LCM Grade 5 Acting Exam. I performed a monologue from the Witches by Roald Dahl. I also had to perform an improvisation on a topic that was given to me 15 prior to the exam, my topic was "My jewellery was there the last time I looked." I found the improvisation tricky because this was one of the first times I had ever done it but with more practise and experience it should become much easier. Finally I performed a sight reading from a play called "The Wild Thing." Again I managed to get a distinction, which I am very proud of considering this is the first acting exam I have ever taken. Here is the critique ...
It says -
The Witches - Vocally convincing as the Grand High Witch and face expressed thoughts throughout. Just a little hurried, take time to develop the mood and this strong character. 24/30
Improv - You had a strong storyline to your improvisation which you committed to and ended well. 26/30
Sight reading - Quite fluent with some sense of character. 9/10
Discussion and folder of work - A well prepared folder on Annie with your own personal experiences. I liked the comments from the other actors. Interesting comments regarding the acting and performing with a realisation of the har work involved. 28/30
Overall - 87/100 Distinction
I am very pleased with my results and will work hard in preparation for my next exam soon. I must practise my improvisation, which i struggled with and when I am performing monologues I must take my time to build up my character.

Singing Exam
A couple of weeks ago I took my LCM Grade 5 Singing exam in bitesize. I sang 3 songs (Good Mornin, Im not that girl, and Burlington Bertie) and came out with a distinction, which I was extremely happy about! This is what the adjudicator had to say about my performances...
It says -
Burlington Bertie - A vital opening which you sustained to give Bert a sense of period and style. A secure vocal delivery. 23/25
Good Morning - You captured the mood through facial and vocal expression. Just relax the shoulders, to prevent tension. 21/25
Im not that girl - This contrasted well, a sensitive portrayal, which conveyed the emotions. Vocally clear and convincing. 26/30
Discussion - An understanding of songs and their background was expressed with thoughts on characters. 18/20
Overall - 88/100 Distinction
Now I know what I need to work on, I must relax my shoulders!!

Dance
In dance with Laura we have finished with West Side Story now and have decided to focus on some basic steps, like leaps and kicks, that are very likely to turn up in auditions for theatre. After the warm-up we did some basic kicks, which I found difficult because I need to work on my flexibility (Which i will now do at home every morning to get back up to standard). Then we did some split leaps, which I couldnt do at first, but with some practise at home I should be able to have mastered by next week.
Drama
In drama with Lizzie we did some games and improvisations to help work on our skills of team work, which will come in very useful for future productions and auditions.
Casting
In casting a small group of us went with Megan to the mirrored room where we started to learn the new group dance, from Singin in the Rain. I couldnt pick it up at first because I struggle to remember my left and right, which is a bit embarrassing!!!

Tonight was the Tuesday night performance. With dance we performed our West Side Story routine. When we practised this before the performance I struggled to remember the steps for the very end because they were quite difficult and very fast so I asked Laura to help me and make sure I knew what I was doing. In the show I remembered all the steps, thankfully. For drama I did a monologue from Hard Times by Charles Dickens. When I was being recorded practising I forgot my words, even after all the practise I had done at home so I went away and did lots more practise so that when I went on stage I knew everything. I found this monologue difficult because I had to pretend to cry in the middle which I found hard because when I was "crying" my diction was terrible and you couldn't understand a word I was saying, but all the help from Sarah I had been given I managed to do my best.
