Ruby and the 13th Door

Wizard Rehearsal 2

On Sunday we were back in Bitesize with the rest of the cast to finish some more scenes. Rob Marsden (http://www.stagejobspro.com/uk/view.php?uid=59223) a director that I worked with on panto in 2008 came to Bitesize especially to work with us and give us professional guidance on our sections where we met Dorothy. We were very lucky to have him with us and I enjoyed working with him very much. Linda came back later in the afternoon and we ran as much as we could in the time we had left. After all the practise I had done of my song since the first rehearsal I had managed to get much better, but I still wasnt perfect, so I will have to keep practising until it gets even better. I also found it hard this week to work without my script and notes so for the next rehearsals I MUST learn my lines even more and make sure all the notes Ive make are in my brain.

8-1-13

BACK IN YOUTH THEATRE!!!!! After the break we arrived back in youth theatre today. In dance Laura took over from Megan and we worked on a fairly simple, short contemporary routine and we did plenty of stretching. In drama we had a meeting for BTEC to discuss what we would be doing in the new year, along the lines of assessments and work etc.

Wizard Rehearsal 1

The principles of this years Bitesize performance were called in for an extra rehearsal at the end of the Christmas holidays. The Dorothys, Tin Men, Lions, and Scarecrows (thats me!) Were called in to choreograph our solo songs. During the holidays after Ruby had finished I had begun learning my songs and lines and searching on youtube for ideas on how I could improve my "scarecrowness" I found watching the original Wizard of Oz film very helpful. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nauLgZISozs) In this rehearsal I struggled getting the energy to dance to the best of my ability and sing and act at the same time so I need to practise this at home lots to make sure I can build up my stamina.

Ruby and the 13th Door

On December 18th after school we trooped up to York for the world premiere of Ruby and the 13th Door. After finding our hotel we settled in for sleep shortly afterwards in preparation for the big two days ahead of us.

Day 1
We found the Merchant Adventurers Hall (http://www.theyorkcompany.co.uk) and began the dress rehearsal with costume and props. We found some difficulty with the banners from scene 4 but had it sorted by the evening. At 6 we were fed and ready for the first show which ran very smoothly and appeared to be VERY well accepted by the full house.

Day 2
We had two shows which went very well too. Although the audience for the matinee was far smaller than both evening performances they still looked very please after the show had come to a close. Before every show Simon, the director, gave the entire cast their notes and gave us plenty of encouragement which I thought was a wonderful idea because it made sure that no one gave less than 100% effort.

I thoroughly enjoyed performing in Ruby because I have never performed in the round before, and neither have I performed in an operatic fairytale/ musical. I was very pleased to hear that Mr. Swain has plenty of things planned for the Ruby cast in the new year.
